Informed Consent to Participate in Research
Collaborative Research: BUILD: Bridging the Unmet Industry Learning Demands for Research Administrators

We’re inviting you to take a test for research. This test is completely voluntary. Your participation is voluntary. You do not have to participate and may stop your participation at any time. There will be no penalties or loss of benefits or opportunities if you do not participate or decide to stop once you start.
The goal of this research is to determine the usefulness of a measure to be used for future studies of effective research administration education at the undergraduate level. We are asking both experienced research administrators and students to take this test and will compare their responses.
The test begins with a few questions about your education and experience and then proceeds to 71 questions on research administration. No sensitive or personal information is asked.
- You may be frustrated by not knowing all the answers to the test. You can skip questions or quit the test at any time.
- Online data being hacked or intercepted: Anytime you share information online there are risks. We’re using a secure system to collect this data, but we can’t completely eliminate this risk.
- Breach of confidentiality: There is a chance your data could be seen by someone who shouldn’t have access to it. We’re minimizing this risk in the following ways:
- All identifying information is removed and replaced with a study ID.
- We’ll store all electronic data on a password-protected, encrypted computer.
There are no personal benefits to this test other than discovering an area of research administration that you may find interesting or decide to investigate further. Creation of a valid test will be useful to educators who deliver research administration education, and to their students by way of enabling instructors to design more effective programs.
60 undergraduate students and 60 research administrators
The test will take approximately 45-90 minutes. The test is untimed. You can take as long as you want but must finish in a single session.

Where will data be stored? Data will be stored on The Julia Group servers
How long will it be kept? Data will be retained for seven years.
- We (the researchers) will have access to the answers to questions regarding experience, education and the test questions. This is so we can analyze the data and conduct the study. Your email is used to create a random identifier and is not stored with the data.
- Agencies that enforce legal and ethical guidelines, such as
- The USF Institutional Review Board (IRB) and its related staff who have oversight responsibilities for this study, and staff in USF Research Integrity and Compliance
- The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP)
- We may share our findings in publications or presentations. If we do, the results will be reported as aggregate statistics and no individual data will be shared.
- Our funding agency requires us to make our dataset public , assuming the data are published, so other researchers can use it. This public dataset will include only questions regarding experience, education and the test questions.

- An undergraduate student in the United States or a research administrator in the United States.
